Could your child benefit from free tutoring from a University of Southampton Student?
Southampton Hub is a local branch of the national charity, Student Hubs. Our team of volunteers and staff work in partnership with the University of Southampton and support students to run practical volunteering projects in the local community.
Southampton Hub have been active in the community since 2011 (see our history here).
Schools Plus is our volunteering programme tackling education disadvantage. Usually, our volunteers would go into schools to assist in the classroom or run extra-curricular activities. During the pandemic, we have turned to online delivery.
After you sign up, your child will be matched with one of our University Tutors for the subject you want them to be tutored in. You will then be invited to an initial meeting to meet the tutor and discuss the best time that suits both of you. Tutoring will be carried out over Zoom. We reccommend that your child is tutored for a period for at least 6 weeks.
All of our volunteers working directly with young people online will undergo a DBS check. These are processed by us. Volunteers will also attend a training session delivered by the staff team and complete safeguarding training.
