One-off volunteering opportunities throughout the year for anyone to attend!
Various throughout Semester One and Semester Two
What is Local Action?
Local Action is Southampton Hub’s one-off volunteering provision, where we provide opportunities for people to volunteer on an ad-hoc basis throughout the year. This could be at gardening sessions, painting sessions, by socialising with the community, and much more!
All of our one-off volunteering placements are organised by our Local Action Coordinator and will only take a couple of hours of your time per session. These placements are varied, so they may take place at Portswood Recreation Ground to support the maintenance of the park, at Ronald McDonald House to support socialising with their residents, or with another ad-hoc partner. We are always looking for new partners to work with for our Local Action placements.
For Local Action, we only expect you to commit to the ad-hoc sessions as and when you’re available. They will be throughout the academic year, so look out for our next event!
Skills and employability
Teamwork, flexibility, customer service, adaptability, communication, motivation, gardening, painting, and leadership are all skills you will gain by taking part in Local Action, and many more depending on what the placement is. This volunteering opportunity is excellent for anyone who wants experience working to combat local issues, wants to try volunteering for the first time, or who can’t commit to a longer term placement.
Training and support
All of our programmes are supported by students and staff. As part of Local Action, you will have the Local Action Coordinator (Arvin de Vera) and the staff team (Southampton Hub Manager and the Youth Projects Officer) to speak to.
The Coordinator and staff team will be leading on your training workshop, as well as any issues with your volunteering.
Local Action is committed to being an inclusive programme, and encourages all students to get involved. We can make reasonable adjustments to application processes, training sessions, your volunteering placement, and other activities on a case-by-case basis. We also provide ongoing support for the students we work with, so if you have particular accessibility needs, including if you want to disclose a disability or special educational needs, please do get in touch with Fiona at email@example.com and let us know how we can make the activity more accessible.
Volunteering with Local Action won't cost you
We reimburse all Southampton Hub volunteers' travel expenses, including bus and car travel, throughout the project.
Why not volunteer with a friend?
Volunteering for Southampton Hub is social and you'll have the chance to meet many like-minded people, but why not ask a friend to sign up with you too?
Email firstname.lastname@example.org who will be able to answer any questions and direct you to the Local Action Coordinator for any further help and support.
You can also check out other various projects over on our What's On page.
