Digi Donors is a digital donation programme that aims to provide young people in Southampton with access to laptops and internet. Donate old/ unused laptops or donate your time to support our team with collections and system installations.
DigiDonors is a Southampton based initiative with the goal of tackling the digital divide and providing school students with the equipment required to study from home. With school closures, children have been expected to continue their education online, however not all children have devices on which to continue their studies. An Ofcom report revealed that 9% of children in the UK (between 1.1 and 1.8 million young people) do not have access to a laptop, desktop or tablet at home and these devices are essential in ensuring that young people are not affected anymore by the disruption to their education that lockdowns have created.
Neverware, a company that is now part of Google, provides an operating system called ‘CloudReady OS’ which turns old computers into Chromebooks. They offer paid-for Education and Enterprise editions but also offer a free Home edition of their operating system, which is the same and will be what we install on donated laptops. Old laptops can struggle to run Windows and OSX operating systems, but running CloudReady OS can make these devices useable, and they can run all the essential programmes students need to continue their learning remotely, such as Google Classroom and Microsoft Office.

We will arrange collection of your laptop. We ask you that you erase your laptops hard drive prior to donation. Upon receiving your laptop, we will carry out data destruction and install CloudReady OS onto the laptop. Once the operating system has been installed the devices will be distributed to schools and charity organisations, who then distribute them to the students that need them.
